Questions
How do you intend to use the four areas of the media theoretical framework to communicate meaning and meet the requirements of your chosen brief?
My aim for the documentary is to represent the younger generation as one of the most affected by the pandemic. Lockdown has been extremely stressful for them, with worries about education, skewed grades and extreme lack of social interaction. Firstly, I will use the media language throughout the documentary to help convey the feelings of young people throughout and after lockdown. It was difficult and stressful, especially keeping up with school and college work during lockdown. However, outlining that as we progressed the pandemic, life got better for the younger generation, especially as life started to get back to normal. Although, as we move into a second peak there is cause for concern, with a big focus on education. Certain aspect of media language I would use would be aesthetically pleasing camerawork, like time-lapses and focus pulls. Also for sound, the use of background music that would appeal to the target audience.
I aim to use the industry behind the documentary to create a similar representation, to represent the younger generation as one of the most affected by lockdown. I will use the website to theoretically ‘promote’ the documentary, with a thumbnail and clear and precise title for it. In addition, with a quote under the title. This would mean before the audience even click on the website, they already know what the documentary is about and perhaps relate to the quote. BBC3 as a whole have very progressive ideologies, with a big focus on documentaries surrounding certain social issues. I aim to show through my documentary certain issues surrounding the pandemic that would have affected the target audience. For instance, the problems surrounding A Level results, the inevitable closing of all education institutions and the Government’s mixed priorities and confusion surrounding restrictions.
How do you intend to link your media products to demonstrate your knowledge and understanding of the digitally convergent nature of your media production?
The first thing I will do to link the documentary and the website is to include the link to the page to watch the documentary on the website. This would also involve a thumbnail, title and possibly a quote from the documentary for the audience that they can relate to. This would allow the audience to easily access the documentary via the website. The link/thumbnail would be at the top of the website, making it the most promoted. Another way I could include a brief link to the documentary would be through some links to further information on the website that is promoted in the documentary.
Due to BBC3 only being present online, the audience would have had to go onto the website already too view the documentary. Therefore, the best way to reference the website would be including a link to more information on a certain topic. However, this would be at the end or throughout the documentary, not during the introduction. Therefore, the best way to include a reference could be through a hashtag which we be included in the title sequence, which the feed would be viewable on the website.
Excellent first draft Eli!
